Pharmacology

Apparent Volume of Distribution (Vd = Dose / C0) & Loading Dose Calculator

Calculates apparent volume of distribution (L & L/kg), tissue distribution, and target loading dose.

Parameters

Apparent Volume of Distribution (Vd = Dose / C0) & Loading Dose Calculator Result

--
FormulaApparent Volume of Distribution: Vd (L) = Dose (mg) ÷ C₀ (mg/L) Vd (L/kg) = Vd (L) ÷ Body Weight (kg) Loading Dose (mg) = [Vd (L) × Desired Target Peak (mg/L)] ÷ Bioavailability (F)

Clinical Pearls

Determines the exact initial loading dose required for critical emergencies (septic shock antibiotics, antiarrhythmics) and guides extracorporeal toxin clearance.

Limitations

Vd is an "apparent" mathematical parameter, not a true anatomical volume, and can exceed 1,000 Liters for drugs with high intracellular tissue affinity.
