FormulaeGFR = 175 × (SCr)^-1.154 × (Age)^-0.203 × (0.742 if female) × (1.212 if Black)

Clinical Pearls

MDRD was historically the standard for reporting eGFR in laboratory results. It performs best in patients with established CKD (eGFR < 60).

Limitations

It systematically underestimates GFR in healthy individuals (eGFR > 60). It also relies on a race coefficient, which is no longer recommended. The 2021 CKD-EPI formula is now the standard of care.
