Glasgow-Blatchford Bleeding Score (GBS) Result

--
FormulaSum of points assigned to BUN, Hemoglobin, SBP, HR, and clinical factors (Melena, Syncope, Hepatic Disease, Heart Failure).

Clinical Pearls

Highly sensitive for identifying patients who do NOT need intervention, allowing for safe discharge from the Emergency Department.

Limitations

Not designed to predict mortality as accurately as the Rockall score (which requires endoscopy results first). GBS is a pre-endoscopy screening tool.
