Clinical Pearls

Determines the prognosis of patients with liver cirrhosis and the required strength of medical treatment. It is also used to assess the risk of perioperative mortality.

Limitations

Subjective variables like ascites and encephalopathy. The MELD score is often preferred for transplant allocation as it uses entirely objective lab values.
