Clinical Pearls

Guidelines recommend oral anticoagulation for score ≥2 in men or ≥3 in women.

Normal Values / Reference

A score of 0 represents a "Low Risk" (normal) state where anticoagulation is generally not indicated (except optionally in some female patients where female sex is the only risk factor).

Limitations

Not for use in patients with mechanical heart valves or moderate-to-severe mitral stenosis.
