Clinical Pearls

While newer KDIGO guidelines emphasize treating individual Ca and P values toward normal ranges, the Ca × P product remains a useful conceptual target and threshold (aiming < 55) for risk-stratifying ESRD patients.

Limitations

Both calcium and phosphate must be entered in mg/dL. If the patient is hypoalbuminemic, the corrected calcium should be used for this calculation.
